Ventilation in garages

If you're experiencing bad odours, dampness, mould or mildew in your garage, it could very well be because your garage isn't getting enough ventilation, airing and heating, but what causes this? A lot depends on the type of “garage”, which can be a broad term, so it's important to find the right ventilation and solution for your garage.

Damp, bad odour in the garage

The poor indoor climate in a garage is often due to it being cooler than a house, while the air is stagnant. If you park a wet car in the garage, the humidity rises, which can result in tools, cars and the like rusting faster.

Options for ventilation in a garage without heating

The important thing is to add a constant movement in the air. This can be done with two telescopic vents placed in the outer wall of the garage at either end. However, this will often not provide enough movement every day, so many people choose to add a mechanical fan at one end and then a telescopic valve at the other end to provide airflow. However, it's important to choose a fan like the DUKA One SmartFan Wi-Fi or DUKA One S7 that can run in basic ventilation and then speed up when humidity increases. This is also a more affordable alternative to the DUKA One.

Ventilation in an insulated garage with heat source

If you have heating in your garage with insulation, you can treat your garage as a classic room/living room. Therefore, you can install a DUKA One unit or units in the garage depending on the number of square metres and therefore ventilate the garage while recovering heat. This will reduce moisture, particles and radon in the garage.

Ventilation can reduce rust and corrosion in the garage

If you park a wet car in the garage, it will also dry faster and all your tools, storage and the car will be exposed to less moisture, minimising the risk of rust and corrosion. The DUKA One units also have a moisture sensor that automatically speeds up the unit should the humidity exceed the limit you set.

DUKA Ventilation recommends

If you are looking for a solution for your insulated garage with heating, DUKA Ventilation recommends a solution like DUKA One Pro 50 S
With the DUKA Smart app, you can easily set the humidity sensor, create a weekly programme, and it's easy to connect with other DUKA One wifi devices.

Can you put a DUKA One in a garage without heating?

You could also put a DUKA One unit in your unheated garage. It will change the air inside the garage through a hole and thus also help, but it will not have any heat to recover and it will therefore quietly become cooler in the garage. DUKA One can therefore be a good solution if you only have the possibility to make one hole for ventilation, but if you have the possibility of more holes, we recommend the solution with a telescopic valve together with a DUKA SmartFan Wi-Fi or S8 Wi-Fi.
