REACH regulation

REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances, is the name of Regulation (EC No 1907/2006) from European Commission which aims to ensure that the chemicals, used in EU, is proven to be safe for humans and the environment. The regulation applies to all chemicals that are produced, imported or used in quantities of at least 1 tonne per year by a company in an EU member state. For a number of the most hazardous chemicals to health and the environment, companies are obliged to use a less hazardous chemical if possible.

REACH came into force on 1 June 2007. All companies in Europe that manufacture, import or use chemical substances and chemical products are subject to the EU chemicals regulation REACH.
